AFA League

A complete 32-team simulation football league brought from original brand concepts into Madden NFL 22 through design, modding, and web development.

Overview

Self-Initiated Project

The AFA is a self-initiated simulation football league featuring 32 original teams, each with its own logo, uniform system, colors, stadium artwork, roster, and schedule. The project combined my love of football and graphic design with a childhood ambition to create my own football team. Using Madden NFL 22, I carried the teams from design concepts into playable in-game visuals, ultimately replacing every NFL franchise with an original AFA team.

Challenge

This was my first substantial dive into programming and video game modding. The process created exciting possibilities, but the game imposed strict technical limits: some modifications could destabilize it or cause it to crash. At the same time, building an entire league required every franchise to feel distinct, with minimal overlap across mascots, color systems, and visual language.

Solution

I treated the league as one connected identity system rather than 32 isolated logos. Throughout development, I repeatedly reviewed the full lineup, retired weaker or repetitive ideas, adjusted color palettes, and refined team names until each franchise held a clear place in the league. Rival teams were deliberately designed with contrasting colors to create complementary uniform matchups on the field. Reducing and refining the roster to 32 teams balanced creative variety with the technical boundaries of Madden NFL 22.
