Myrtle Beach Hoyas

A professional basketball identity for the Myrtle Beach Hoyas, combining a custom bulldog mascot with a bold coastal-inspired arena and game-day system.

Overview

Myrtle Beach Hoyas

The Myrtle Beach Hoyas are a semi-professional basketball team working to establish a major-league level presence within their competition. The identity needed to honor the owner's connections to Washington, D.C., and Georgia while still giving the franchise a visual language rooted in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Challenge

The client wanted a unique bulldog mascot and a color system that nodded to both the Georgetown Hoyas and Georgia Bulldogs without simply copying either program. The mark also needed enough strength and flexibility to command a basketball, court, arena, social media feed, and team merchandise.

Solution

I illustrated an original bulldog with an intense, compact silhouette, drawing inspiration from the toughness associated with both collegiate references while giving the face and proportions a distinct identity. Navy connects to Georgetown, bright red references Georgia, and a cool light-blue and silver accent separates the mascot's features and adds a coastal tone. Bold custom typography and a coordinated graphic system extend the identity across the court, scorer's table, tunnel graphics, game-day posts, and branded equipment.
