Savannah Hurricanes

The Savannah Hurricanes are a semi-professional basketball team created to engage the community and give athletes an opportunity to advance toward the professional level. Inspired by the powerful storms that frequently affect the southeastern United States, the identity positions the team as an energetic local force while keeping basketball and community connection at the center of the brand.

Challenge

The challenge was to capture the ferocity and motion of a hurricane without relying on a predictable sports palette. The system needed to be led by light Tar Heel blue, remain bold against black and white, and perform consistently across uniforms, the court environment, apparel, transportation, printed materials, promotional graphics, and the team website.

Solution

I designed a hurricane symbol with a basketball positioned at the eye of the storm, representing both the force of the team and the wider reach created when a community comes together through basketball. The visual system extends that swirling motion into court graphics, social media artwork, tickets, merchandise, and vehicle graphics. Multiple coordinated uniform sets help the Hurricanes stand apart within the league, while player names and numbers continue across both jerseys and shorts to create a more complete level of personalization. The resulting system is distinctive, flexible, and recognizable from game day to community outreach.
